It was a mighty long trip to the borough of Darby, Pennsylvania, but it was so worth it! God had good things in store for us, and we praise Him for that! We battled the heat, the traffic, the early maddening "wakey, wakey" calls and a bold mouse, while soaking up the new friends, bonding time, group singing, chocolate milk, care cards, teamwork, God-sightings and the joy of knowing that we were living out our faith and serving our residents in Jesus' name. Read on for a "taste" of our week of service!
We went over some of the Appalachian hills, and under some of them, too!
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church put us up for the night, then woke us up with a great home cooked breakfast. We joined them for Bible class and worship before moving on to Darby. Such a blessing!
The town was expecting us, and we got some good publicity to start the week.
Quite a number of crews worked inside this year- Morgan's crew had some of the most challenging interior prep work
Lori is properly protected and equipped for some much needed scraping.
Nick was one of the lucky ones who got to mess around with some carpentry and repairs.
This "forest" of 4x4's is well on it's way to becoming a very long wheelchair ramp!
Wednesday afternoon we had a few hours to tour some of the historic areas around Darby, namely Philadelpia. Kim, Lori and Shandra were all smiles at the Liberty Bell!
We all enjoyed our daily worksite devotions- lots of good discussion and faith-building, often with our residents!
Taking the time to get to know and care for our residents and the people in the neighborhood is always a part of our Workcamp mission, and David is doing his part!
As the workweek went on, the workforce on some sites grew as crews finished their jobs and came over to help with the really big projects.
Every night at the evening program, crews would share noteworthy "God Sightings" from the day's work. Here Steve, Nick and Joel were all chosen to share their experiences.
By Friday, we were all working diligently to get our Care Cards written. Care Cards are simply short, encouraging notes we write to each other about our experiences at camp. With a crew of 40 and all the friends we make during the week, there are plenty to write, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun!
When you can have fun on the long trip back from Workcamp, you know it's been a great week! Thanks be to God for the blessings he provided so freely!
